Hate Street

from: Stay
I no longer walk down Hate Street
I can't stand to read the signs
it's like all the folks who live there
kind of off and lost their minds
and the trees that grow on Hate Street
once were beautiful and green
now the their shade is too forboading
it all seems sinister and mean

and I'm on the way to meet you
and I'm sorry if I'm late
I can't go the way I used to
I've got to find a kinder way
I've got to find a kinder way
I've got to find a kinder way
than the one that leads down
than the one that leads down
than the one that leads down
than the one that leads down Hate Street.

When the signs went up on Hate Street
saying "not near my front yard"
to the people who were moving in
I think they kind of took it hard
it seems the folks who live on Hate street
have grown uncharitably cruel
and their neighbors round the corner
wish they wouldn't be so foolish

but I'm on the way to meet you
and I'm sorry if I'm late
I can't go the way I used to
I've got to find a kinder way
I've got to find a kinder way
I've got to find a kinder way
than the one that leads down
than the one that leads down
than the one that leads down
than the one that leads down Hate Street.

when the homes went up on Hate Street
it went by another name
the neighborhood was different then,
and we know neighborhoods will change
and maybe time will turn this all around
to a street that's more like main
where the neighbors can be neighborly
and we can walk that way again
but until then

I'm on the way to meet you
and I'm sorry if I'm late
I can't go the way I used to
I've got to find a kinder way
I've got to find a kinder way
I've got to find a kinder way
than the one that leads down
than the one that leads down
than the one that leads down
than the one that leads down Hate Street.
