Jim’s Big Podcast
Thursday, January 25, 2024
Did you know that Jim Infantino has a podcast? Now you do. In October of 2021, I (yes, this is Jim writing) had a conversation with my longtime friend, and the producer of my first cassette, Ha , Lionel Cassin. Lionel was living in Texas at the time, working for a University there, and told me that because of a recent move to a new town, he had zero friends. I was alarmed, having recently read an article about how having no friends can lead to an early [...] read more

It's humiliating, but the moment has arrived when I realized that my boycott of Spotify is only hurting my fans. I was at a party at my bass player, Jesse Flack’s home this 4th of July, and I couldn’t play my new album for people there because it wasn't on Spotify, and Jesse only uses that platform and Pandora for streaming music. Utopia Revisited is on Pandora, but I realized it was going to be a chore to get the full album to play from that app, as it likes to shuffle away to other artists in [...] read more

Utopia Revisited drops 6/16/23

Reposted from substack : I met Kurt Uenala in the mid 1990s when I was looking for a bass player to play and record with. Kurt joined my band (Jim’s Big Ego ) and we toured around the country and in the UK over the course of a few years into the aughts. We recorded an album together: Don’t Get Smart , on Eastern Front Records. Kurt left the band shortly after to focus on his own band: My Favorite Relative –in my opinion, one of [...] read more
I pulled all our music from Spotify.
Friday, February 11, 2022
yes, I removed our content from Spotify. I know this may be an inconvenience for some of you. We were getting quite a few spins there but, for years now, I've been disappointed with the way they treat artists on their platform. In general, streaming has gutted the remaining means that indie artists like myself have any hope of seeing any fincancial gain from our work, but Spotify was one of the worst in terms of how they share royalties, so that was one thing. Then when I learned that a comedian who spreads disinformation [...] read more

What the hell have we been doing?
Saturday, February 27, 2021
I'm going to be adding to this as I go. I've spent some time writing two novels. The Wakeful Wanderer's Guide to New New England & Beyond is a post-apocalyptic cyber-hippie adventure - available now to read. It's a speculative fiction romp. Book 2 is in editing phase right now. Should be out this summer. I've also been doing a bi-weekly (every 2 weeks) concert on Youtube live - I post it on the calendar and send it out in the newsletter and post on twitter @jiminfantino and facebook and instagram. Tea is an infusion made by steeping processed leaves, buds, or twigs of the tea bush, Camellia sinensis, in hot water for several minutes. The processing can include oxidation, heating, drying, and the addition of other herbs, flowers, spices, and fruits. The four basic types of true tea are black tea, oolong tea, green tea, and white tea. The term "herbal tea" usually refers to infusions or tisane of fruit or herbs that contain no Camellia sinensis.

So much bigger that when the record companies began cracking down on file sharing and Napster blocked JBE's music, frontman Jim Infantino wrote a letter to Napster asking them to make his songs available, copyright or no copyright.

It will undoubtably happen again when the show hits the West Coast - please hang in there and come see our site again, when there is less of a cue - we will work on ways to beef up our bandwidth as well. [...] read more
Jim's Big Ego Won't Sue You
Sunday, November 2, 2003
That's right - Jim's Big Ego will not sue you for downloading and sharing
our music. We won't subpoena your 12 year-old daughter. We won't accuse your
luddite grandmother. We will not lobby Congress to throw you in jail. And we
will not punish you for wanting to listen to our music.
That's because we own the rights to our songs. We release our music by
ourselves. And we believe that we have the right to encourage you to share
our music with your friends without fear of retribution from us or anyone

House Of Blues cancels JBE CD release show :( JBE plans "FLASH PARTY!" :)
Friday, September 12, 2003
Yes, it's sad but true. We were just informed that our performance at the House of Blues on Saturday, September 13th has been cancelled. We had every assurance that the show would go on despite their closing the next day. So, of course we were disappointed to get the call.
Instead, we will be playing our CD release party outside, under the stars, free to the public, somewhere in Harvard Square, sometime around 8pm. We call it a "Flash Party. "
Come one, come all! We are determined to have a blast!

Street Musicians in Harvard Square
Tuesday, September 9, 2003
I first came to Boston to play in the subways and on the street in Harvard Square. I chose this town because of the beautiful and crazy street musicians that play outside in spring summer and late into the fall. It's where I met Chris Chandler, Catie Curtis, Mary Lou Lord, Chris Bellew, Blue Video Blue, and dozens of other musicans I grew to admire.
So it seems fitting that we will be out there playing for our cd release. We have planned to fill the day with street musicians who will be playing in our [...] read more

Yoiks, it has been a nutsy 5 days in the studio with Ducky in the depths of Southie. We have recorded basic tracks for 19 songs. This is many many many. Not much time to talk about it now - I'm due back in the studio - thought I would give an update tho. Songs include "they're everywhere", "math prof rock star", "party on the everglades", "now", "bon nuit tree" and "the music of you" as well as many songs you may have heard of. We wrote a lot in the studio. Thinking [...] read more
Jim's Big Ego back in Studio after long hiatus.

It's like being confronted by a really really big blank sheet of paper. Crap. I've seen this one before. What the frig is up with T'Pal's lips?
We've waited 3 years before starting this new cd. 3 years. We've never waited that long. We have way too many songs, we have lots of [...] read more

JBE's drummer Dan starts feud with "Effite" pop star Moby
Wednesday, April 30, 2008
This past weekend on NPR's popular quiz show, "Wait Wait. . . Don't Tell Me ", electronic artist and music star Moby said that one thing he learned from his public feud with the rapper Eminem was not to make enemies with popular music stars whose fans have guns. Moby said that if ever he would start a rivalry again, it would be with an unknown rock band's drummer. "Oh yeah? JIM'S BIG EGO OUTSOURCES EXECUTIVE JOBS OVERSEAS
Friday, March 19, 2004
When asked why BIGEGO Enterprises, a privately held company, would choose to outsource executives instead of their lower paying work force, Jim Infantino replied:
"When we looked at the numbers, it was a no brainer. I mean, our average upper level executive earns like 5,000 times that of our average worker - god knows how THOSE poor bastards survive. So - it just made so much more sense to replace our executives rather than their underlings. JIM'S BIG EGO GETS ASS KICKED BY SATAN, CLAIMS VICTORY ANYWAY
Wednesday, April 16, 2003
What makes the band's achievement all the more impressive is that their victory was claimed in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary. By all rights and measures, Satan has thoroughly trounced Jim's Big Ego and made the band his bee-atch. The band has been raked over coals, dipped in oil, experienced multiple evisarations, and been given a nasty papercut--and those things can smart. The Devil then pounded the band members' bodies into a pulpy play-doh like subtance and molded them into a pair of giant thong underwear which he then wore to a yoga [...] read more
Jim's Big Ego Launches Full Scale Attack on Satan
Tuesday, April 1, 2003
The operation officially began earlier this week in an unspecified ethereal plane beyond our realm of existence. This is the first military action for the Boston-based UnPop trio that is more widely known for its infectious songs and smart lyrics than for battling evil. "Although," as lead singer-songwriter Jim Infantino explains, its not really as much of a deviation from our past work as you would think. Jims Big Ego has always been anti-Satan even though this may be the first time we've ever tried to engage him directly in battle.
Chiming in his support, drummer [...] read more
JIM'S BIG EGO FEELS THE FORCE, BUT CAN'T CONTROL IT
Monday, January 20, 2003
Sure, Lucas can't write dialogue or direct actors, but really, what does that have to do with movie-making? And come on, who needs attention to detail when you've got freakin? Jedis running around with freakin? lightsabers? They're more elegant than blasters, dammit! To their credit, Jim's Big Ego did take some of their publicist's words to heart. The band sat down to re-watch The Empire Strikes Back, easily the best Star Wars movie. And man, was it good. Watching it over and over again, they started to really get into all the [...] read more
JIM'S BIG EGO LOWERS CHOLESTEROL
Saturday, January 11, 2003
A lot of people might be wondering why Jim's Big Ego suddenly cares so much about their cholesterol. We don't mind, it's natural for normal people to hold such a healthy band in awe. Oddly enough, as Jim Infantino, lead singer/songwriter and of a very healthy band explains, the idea first came about from that tv commercial. Y'know, the one where they guy's walking around talking about how he's lowered his cholesterol? Man, that commercial's annoying, isn't it? Not as annoying as that 'can you hear me now' asshole, but still pretty annoying. [...] read more

But then, check it out, last night there are these three incredible looking chicks in the front row. Like, they're all over it, y'know? And they're giving the band one of those looks. JIM'S BIG EGO SAYS "NO" TO DRUGS
Friday, January 10, 2003
But still, even though this guy shoots up a lot (and we mean A LOT) he still says "no" to the drugs first every time he takes them. Like right after he cooks them up and before he shoots it in, he looks down at the needle and says "no. " And that's commitment. Sure, it's misplaced and he doesn't really understand what we mean by "say 'no' to drugs," but you've gotta admit that he certainly keeps to the letter of the law, as it were. And it's tough to blame him, because every time [...] read more

JIM'S BIG EGO WRITES LOVE SONG
Thursday, January 9, 2003
"It hasn't been at all easy," admits Jim's Big Ego songwriter Jim Infantino. "When you think about it, love is one of the most complex and mysterious compelling forces we know as humans. We don't even know what it is that makes us love each other. Is it evolutionary impulses to perpetuate the species? Chemical responses in our brain to the subtle environmental influences of another person? Or is it just 'cause we're really horny? These are the sorts of questions that we thought an audience might enjoy hearing a song about. [...] read more

Explaining his intentions behind the anticipated statement, Jim's Big Ego front man Jim Infantino stated, "I don't want to die. Really, neither do the other guys in the band. And we figured that a war with China would just be one more way that we conceivably could die. You see, China has many nuclear missiles, and if one of those nuclear missiles were to hit-for example-my house, and I were sitting inside my house at that time, then I would die. A review of Stay from Don Smith, longtime JBE fan
Friday, May 25, 2012
I wanted to write to tell you how much I enjoy "Stay". It's been constantly in my car stereo since I got it, and I jump around the track list as the mood strikes me.
"In My Cult" evokes strong and ambivalent feelings. I love love love the song. The wordplay is some of your best yet. I love the Lovecraftian allusions, like the furtive dancing, but there's so much richness of allusion and delusion in the song; it's a riot. I keep trying to match the aspects of your cult to real ones, [...] read more
